What is TPMS?

A Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) is an electronic safety feature that monitors the air pressure in your tyres while you drive.

If one or more tyres lose pressure, your vehicle alerts you by displaying a warning light on the dashboard. This gives you the opportunity to check your tyres before low pressure affects your safety or causes unnecessary tyre wear.

Since November 2014, TPMS has been a legal requirement on most newly registered passenger vehicles in the UK, making it an important part of your vehicle’s safety systems.

Maintaining the correct tyre pressures can help:

Improve road safety

Increase tyre life

Improve fuel economy

Reduce uneven tyre wear

Improve braking performance

Improve handling

Reduce the risk of tyre failure

Why Has My TPMS Warning Light Come On?

Seeing the warning light doesn’t automatically mean you need a new sensor.

Common causes include:

Low tyre pressure

A puncture

Seasonal temperature changes

A damaged TPMS sensor

A flat sensor battery

Corrosion around the valve

A damaged valve stem

Programming or communication faults

Sensors requiring relearning after tyre replacement

The only way to know for certain is through a professional diagnostic check.

Our TPMS Services

Every vehicle is different, so we offer three dedicated TPMS services. Some customers only require diagnostics, while others may benefit from a service kit or complete sensor replacement.

We’ll always explain your options before carrying out any work.

TPMS Diagnostics

If your warning light is on, diagnostics should always be the first step.

Using specialist TPMS equipment, we can:

Read every individual sensor

Check battery condition

Identify faulty sensors

Detect communication faults

Check sensor identification numbers

Diagnose programming issues

Confirm which wheel has the problem

Advise on the most cost-effective solution

Rather than replacing parts unnecessarily, we identify the fault first.

TPMS Service Kits

Many customers are surprised to learn that a faulty TPMS valve doesn’t always require a completely new sensor.

Over time, the small serviceable components naturally wear due to moisture, corrosion, road salt and general use.

A TPMS service kit typically includes:

Valve stem

Valve core

Rubber seals

Grommets

Retaining nut

Valve cap

Washers

Replacing these components can often restore the valve assembly while keeping the original sensor in place, making it a more economical repair where appropriate.

If a service kit is all that’s required, we’ll tell you.

TPMS Sensor Fitting & Programming

Sometimes a sensor simply reaches the end of its working life.

When replacement is required, we provide:

New TPMS sensor fitting

Sensor programming

Vehicle relearn procedures

TPMS system reset

Sensor testing

Final system checks

We can replace a single sensor or all four depending on your vehicle’s requirements. Before you leave, we’ll ensure everything is communicating correctly and your dashboard warning light has been reset where appropriate.

Already Bought Your Own Sensors?

No problem.

Many customers purchase TPMS sensors online or directly from vehicle manufacturers.

We’re happy to fit customer-supplied sensors provided they’re compatible with your vehicle.

If you’re unsure whether you’ve purchased the correct sensors, simply bring them with you and we’ll happily check them before fitting.

This allows you to choose whether you would like us to:

Diagnose the fault

Fit your supplied sensor

Supply and fit a new sensor

Carry out programming only

Replace a service kit only

You choose the level of service that’s right for you.

TPMS FAQs

If the light has just appeared, it’s important to check your tyre pressures as soon as possible. Low tyre pressure can affect handling, braking and tyre life. If the warning light flashes or remains on after inflating your tyres correctly, we recommend booking a diagnostic check.

No. Low tyre pressure, seasonal temperature changes, valve leaks or programming issues can all trigger the warning light. That’s why we recommend diagnostics before replacing any parts.

Yes. We’re happy to fit customer-supplied TPMS sensors provided they’re suitable for your vehicle. We can also programme and test them where required.

A service kit replaces the small wearable components around the sensor, such as the valve core, seals and retaining nut. If the sensor itself is still working correctly, replacing these parts can often extend its lifespan.

Most TPMS diagnostics or sensor replacements can usually be completed during your appointment, although times vary depending on the vehicle and the work required.

In many cases yes, but some vehicles require a relearn or programming procedure after a new sensor has been fitted. We’ll complete this as part of the service where applicable.

Yes. Lower temperatures can reduce tyre pressure naturally, particularly during autumn and winter. Even a small pressure drop can activate the TPMS warning light.

Most passenger vehicles first registered from November 2014 are required to have a functioning TPMS. It also forms part of the MOT inspection on applicable vehicles.
